Boston City Council president Christopher Ianella dies after a long illness.

The patriarch of a well-known Boston political family was a resident of 14 Jaeger Terrace. News of his death is initially withheld, however, reputedly to aid his son, Christopher Jr., a candidate for Governor’s Council in the primary election being a few days later. According to tavern owner Gerry Burke, when family members are asked about Ianella Sr.’s condition, they are told, “He is about the same.”
